Campaign Experiment: Turning an eSIM Into Part of the Travel Story

Objective: Drive awareness, consideration, and eSIM purchases through content people actually want to watch.
The Problem
Most eSIM campaigns have the same problem.
The creator arrives in a new country, pulls out their phone and says:
“I used [Brand] to stay connected while traveling. Use my code for 10% off.”
It explains the product. It doesn't necessarily make anyone care about it.
For travel creators, the internet connection isn't the story. The trip is the story.
So instead of asking a creator to advertise an eSIM, we'd make the eSIM part of something the audience already wants to watch.
The Idea: “Can I Survive This Trip Without Wi-Fi?”
We'd challenge a travel creator to spend 24–48 hours in a new city while intentionally avoiding hotel Wi-Fi, public Wi-Fi, and expensive roaming.
Their only connection: the eSIM.
But this isn't presented as a product demonstration. It's a travel challenge. The creator has to use their phone to:
- Navigate unfamiliar streets
- Find their accommodation
- Translate something they don't understand
- Find a restaurant & book transportation
- Check opening hours & message contacts
- Find something they weren't expecting to need
If the connection fails, the challenge gets harder. If it works, the audience barely notices the technology. And that's the point. The eSIM becomes the invisible thing making the trip possible.
Why We Like This Angle
An eSIM is difficult to make exciting. Nobody wakes up thinking: “I want to watch someone install an eSIM.”
But people will watch someone trying to navigate Tokyo at midnight. They'll watch someone accidentally get off at the wrong train station, or try to find a restaurant in a neighborhood they've never visited.
The product sits underneath the story. Instead of interrupting the content, it enables it.
Creator Strategy
We wouldn't simply look for the biggest travel creator available. We'd look for a creator whose audience already watches them figure things out while traveling.
1. Strong travel intent
Their audience follows them for destinations, itineraries, experiences, and travel decisions — not just lifestyle content.
2. A believable personality
The creator should be comfortable being lost, confused, spontaneous, or imperfect. A highly polished travel commercial would actually work against the idea.
3. An audience that travels
Follower count matters less than whether the audience contains people who are actually planning trips.
4. Strong storytelling & organic integration
Prioritize creators who can turn “I missed my train” into “I have 17 minutes to figure out how to get across the city.” The creator shouldn't suddenly sound like a salesperson.
The Content & Brand Integration
We'd build the campaign around one hero video:
Hero Video: “I Spent 48 Hours in [CITY] With No Wi-Fi”
The first few seconds establish the challenge. No long introduction. No logo animation. No explanation of the eSIM. Just:
“For the next 48 hours, if I lose internet, I'm on my own.”
The creator reaches the airport, turns on their phone: “Normally this is where I start hunting for airport Wi-Fi. Not today.” Quick screen recording. eSIM activated. Back to the trip. No hard sell.
Short-Form Series
- “Things I would've been completely screwed without internet for.”
- “The most stressful 10 minutes of my trip.”
- “I got lost in [CITY] — here's what happened.”
- “3 apps that saved my trip.”
The Conversion Layer
The content creates the attention. The landing page converts it.
Instead of sending viewers to a generic homepage, we'd build a simple campaign landing page:

We separate the campaign into three stages:
- Attention: Views, Hook retention, Average watch time, Completion rate, Shares
- Consideration: Profile visits, Comments asking about the eSIM, Landing-page visits, Link clicks, Saves
- Conversion: eSIM purchases, Conversion rate, Cost per acquisition, Revenue generated
